Rosh Hashanah held at Hillel House
Boston University Jewish students of all denominations celebrated Rosh Hashanah at Hillel House this weekend. The Jewish New Year, celebrated this year from Sept. 15 to 17, opens a 10-day period between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur that Jews use to repent for their sins and prepare for the upcoming year.
Moonlight cruise sends 500 to sea
The Boston University International Students’ Consortium hosted its second-annual Moonlight Harbor Cruise through Boston Harbor on Friday night, offering students from area colleges an opportunity to meet people from around the world. About 500 students from nearly 30 countries attended the event, which was co-sponsored by student groups from Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston College and Northeastern University.
Hypnotist spices up GSU
While some Boston University students may have trouble remembering parts of their weekend for various reasons, participants at the R-Rated hypnotist show Saturday could not recall many of their actions thanks to hypnotist Frank Santos. The event, sponsored by the Student Activities Office as part of the Fall Welcome program, drew about 1,500 students to the George Sherman Union Ballroom for the annual show, in which volunteers are hypnotized and then persuaded to engage in “R-Rated” acts.
Harvard grad student’s murder trial begins today
Lawyers for a Harvard University graduate student accused of murdering an 18-year-old high school dropout will give their opening statements today at Middlesex Superior Court in Cambridge. Alexander Pring-Wilson, 26, is accused of stabbing Michael Colono during an early-morning altercation April 12, 2003.
Rain dampens Taste of Boston
Thousands of people filled City Hall Plaza to enjoy food, music, sports and children’s entertainment at the 21st annual Taste of Boston festival on Saturday and Sunday. The festival offered a variety of different foods from simple pizza to the most complex Asiatic dish.
