Bulls charging
What’s in a name? For the University of Buffalo men’s soccer team, apparently quite a bit. The Bulls (8-1) stampeded out of the gate with eight consecutive wins to start the season, led by a hard-charging offensive attack that averages 3.22 goals per game and 19 shots per game.
Athletes of the Month
Neil Hlavaty has made quite a few debuts in the past month. The freshman men’s soccer midfielder made his collegiate soccer debut, his Nickerson Field debut and his America East debut in the debut month of his debut semester. And now, Hlavaty makes his Athlete of the Month debut in the debut of the newest DFP Sports tradition.
Athletes of the Month
Meet field hockey sophomore Sarah Shute, the DFP’s inaugural Athlete of the Month. The 5-foot-4 starting forward out of Lincolnville, Maine leads the America East in goals per game (.55) and after nine games finds herself in a four-way draw for the league’s top scorer spot, netting five.
Women finally make way home
After five straight road games, the Boston University field hockey team is looking forward to settling back in at Jack Barry Field. Unfortunately for the Terriers, by the time they have the chance to appreciate being home again, they’ll be on the road again.
Tops for Hockey East will be a battle
It took all David Van der Gulik had to make it onto the ice on March 25. That probably explains why he hasn’t skated since. It’s been a long summer for the Boston University men’s ice hockey team’s co-captain, who gutted out all 41 games last year despite a bevy of injuries that earned him a reputation as maybe the toughest Terrier in a sport filled with one-toothed freaks of nature.
