Perspective: Furniture still rots at my doorstep in New Orleans
For just a few minutes, imagine that New Orleans is your hometown. All of your memories are there in the house you grew up in, and most of your family still lives there. You love the city with its upsides and its downsides. The beautiful old buildings, the massive, sprawling live oaks in City Park, the amazing music scene, the energy in the French Quarter – it’s all home to you.
A Ghoulishly Good Time!
I hate this feeling of guilt. The worst part about feeling guilty is that if I didn’t feel guilty, I would have no motivation to do my schoolwork and would have failed out years ago. But why do I feel bad right now? I mean, we’re all gonna die anyway, so what’s the point? I called my friend Mike because he always had the right idea, and plus it would help me procrastinate that much longer .
Staff Edit: A question of morality
The mass genocide being carried out by the government-sponsored Janjaweed coalition in Sudan has been condemned by the U.S. government, but little has been done to stop it. Taking the matter into their own hands, some lawmakers on Beacon Hill have decided that Massachusetts can at least do its part – by divesting from all companies conducting business in the conflict-ridden African country.
Letters to the Editor: The missing statistics in the death penalty case
Re: “Death penalty affirms the value of life,” (page 7, Nov. 28) It is only fair that arguments against the death penalty be clearly defined and explained so that each person may form his or her own opinion. By the time this is printed, Robin Lovitt will likely be the 1,000 person to be executed in the United States.
Letters to the Editor: Students not to blame for ‘post-game revelry’
At-Large City Councilor Stephen Murphy is quoted in Tuesday’s Daily Free Press blaming “the post-game ‘revelry’ that killed two 21-year-olds last year” on “university and college students” (“University PILOTs examined,” page 1). I’ve seen his argument appear in the DFP again and again over the past year.
