Study: Student voters on rise

The youngest demographic of voters showed up in record numbers to vote in last year’s presidential election, according to new data released by the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, or CIRCLE, at the University of Maryland.

Students look to internet over library sources for final papers

With only two weeks of the semester left, many Boston University students are facing looming deadlines for final papers and say they prefer using online sources to conduct research over the university’s libraries. Some university professors do not always specify how their students should research background information for papers assigned, allowing many students to opt for the ease and speed of the internet.

ENG launches new alternative fuel effort

Boston University’s College of Engineering and an international company recently signed a license and development agreement for a research project that focuses on improving processes used to manufacture solid oxide fuel cells, an alternative energy source.

Mass. considers economic rebuke to Sudan

Massachusetts lawmakers made an international statement last week when they suggested banning the state pension board from investing in companies conducting business in conflict-ridden Sudan. An estimated 400,000 civilians in Sudan have been killed since February 2003, when a government-sponsored militia, the Janjaweed, began massacring civilians in the Darfur region, which the government deemed disloyal to Sudan, according to the Save Darfur Coalition.

The season of stress

With the countdown to the semester’s end in full swing, Boston University officials say finding campus outlets and focusing on individual practices can help students cope with final exam stress. Danielsen Institute Clinical Services Director George Stavros said the institute sees an influx of new patients during the time leading up to final exams.
