SMG center fosters entrepreneur trend
When you’re your own boss, every day can be casual Friday. That’s part of the appeal behind entrepreneurial management, an increasingly popular choice for business and management students across the country. More than 1,600 colleges, including Boston University, are now offering courses in entrepreneurship, as well as providing support groups and centers for students interested in starting up their own businesses instead of following the tried and true formula for success in the traditional business world.
Thousands of women attend first conference in their honor
Successful women professionals spoke to more than 3,000 women of all ages at the first-ever Massachusetts Conference for Women at the Boston Convention Center on Wednesday, addressing the challenges women face in the workplace today and encouraging them to pursue their career goals.
Greek chapters reflect on Elmore’s initiative
More than two months after Boston University Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore made the decision to discontinue chartering new fraternity and sorority chapters, the question remains what the course of action will mean for the future of BU’s Greek life. Elmore said the presence of Greek life on campus is neither too weak nor too strong.
Former CFA prof dies at 92
Boston University College of Fine Arts professor emeritus Gardner Read died last month from complications with pneumonia. He was 92. Read, who composed more than 150 works of music, came to Boston University in 1948 and taught in the CFA music department until his retirement in 1978.
Mass. ranked the 2nd-least charitable state
The 2005 Catalogue of Philanthropy, which ranks states based on a statistical calculation called the Generosity Index, lists Massachusetts as the 49th-most charitable state in the country, outranking only New Hampshire. To determine a state’s generosity, the catalogue subtracted the state’s total charitable donations from its income.
