SMG center fosters entrepreneur trend

When you’re your own boss, every day can be casual Friday. That’s part of the appeal behind entrepreneurial management, an increasingly popular choice for business and management students across the country. More than 1,600 colleges, including Boston University, are now offering courses in entrepreneurship, as well as providing support groups and centers for students interested in starting up their own businesses instead of following the tried and true formula for success in the traditional business world.

Former CFA prof dies at 92

Boston University College of Fine Arts professor emeritus Gardner Read died last month from complications with pneumonia. He was 92. Read, who composed more than 150 works of music, came to Boston University in 1948 and taught in the CFA music department until his retirement in 1978.

Mass. ranked the 2nd-least charitable state

The 2005 Catalogue of Philanthropy, which ranks states based on a statistical calculation called the Generosity Index, lists Massachusetts as the 49th-most charitable state in the country, outranking only New Hampshire. To determine a state’s generosity, the catalogue subtracted the state’s total charitable donations from its income.
