Theater critic discusses future of arts industry

In an event sponsored by the Boston University Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center, playwright, professor and literary critic Gordon Rogoff headlined a discussion titled “The Future of Theatre” at Metcalf Hall in the George Sherman Union Thursday night in front of a crowd of about 200 library members and students.

Musicians combine hip hop, classical compositions

Five acts of different genres, including Latin, jazz, classical, hip-hop and rock, performed before a crowd of approximately 160 Boston University students and music fans at the George Sherman Union for the BU Central Music Festival Thursday night. Hip-hop group member Paul Umbro came up with the idea for the festival and worked closely with the Student Activities Office to produce the show.

Jewish community lobbies for Mass. healthcare, housing

Rallying for Massachusetts citizens who say their voices are not always heard by lawmakers, more than 200 Jewish residents gathered at the Statehouse Thursday morning for the eighth annual Jewish Community Advocacy Day to lobby for healthcare reform for senior citizens and the poverty-stricken.

Comedian tackles stereotypes, racial slurs

Eliot Chang, of Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, entertained students with racial humor and jokes about stereotypes at the College of Communication, a production sponsored by the Asian Student Union Thursday night in front of approximately 40 students. In addition to performing, Chang led part of a workshop on uniting Asians in America.

Men bare their souls in Penis Monologues

The Penis Monologues, a series of witty, one-man acts — a twist on the honest, satirical spirit of the Vagina Monologues — highlighted Theater for Engineers’ Spring Show, performed in the College of Arts and Sciences building Thursday in front of about 40 students.
