An Allston man accepted into the Boston University School of Law was found dead on a Chatham beach last Tuesday. He had been missing since Saturday and had left a suicide note.
Glenn Edwards, of 43 Parkvale Ave., Allston, had been arrested June 15 on federal charges of persuading a minor to engage in sexual activity after a month-long FBI investigation. According to an affidavit filed in court, Edwards allegedly arranged to meet with what he thought was a 14-year-old boy.
Edwards was arrested by FBI agents after pulling into a Newburyport parking lot to meet the boy, and appeared in U.S. district court June 16, according to a court press release.
BU spokesman Colin Riley confirmed that Edwards had been accepted into the School of Law.
The discovery of Edwards’ body and suicide note was reported in the Quincy-based Patriot Ledger. Chatham police spokesman Sgt. Michael Anderson was out of the office Friday and could not be reached.
According to the court affidavit, Edwards and the undercover agent spoke several times via the internet between May 17 and June 11. During the exchanges, Edwards allegedly said he did not want to pressure the boy and was concerned about others finding out.
“I need to tell you … I am not looking to take advantage of you or anything,” he allegedly wrote during the first conversation. “We would never do anything you didn’t want to do … I am not into forcing anything at all … I promise we would have a good time, and do what you were comfortable with.
“We would have to be careful,” he allegedly told the undercover agent.
Edwards’ attorney, Edward Ryan, declined to comment. Samantha Martin, a spokeswoman for the U.S district attorney’s office in Boston, said the case had been dismissed.
