Low turnout at event ends week of voter awareness
A week of lectures, film screenings and networking events came to an anticlimactic end last night as 15 students showed up for VoteSmart, the final event in the BU Votes series. Student Union President Brooke Feldman, who planned VoteSmart as a part of a student-led, campus-wide initiative, said she was disappointed by the event’s low turnout.
CAS graduate gets journalism award for Asian-affairs reporting
David Barboza began his journalism career when he walked into the Daily Free Press offices as a Boston University undergraduate and asked for an assignment. Twenty-two years later, the College of Communication has awarded him the Hugo Shong Journalist of the Year Award for his work reporting on Asian affairs.
SMG undergrad program ranked 37th in country
Boston University’s School of Management jumped in national rankings this fall, boasting the No. 24 undergraduate business program and No. 37 undergraduate management program as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. SMG has consistently risen in national rankings for several years and is now placed in the top 2 percent of the nation’s 1,614 undergraduate programs.
Boylston fire snarls Green Line commute
Thousands of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority passengers spilled into the streets by the Kenmore T station yesterday afternoon as a fire in the Boylston station halted inbound transportation on the B Line. At around 3:45 p.m., MBTA employees announced to passengers in the station that service would not be available for an indefinite amount of time, instructing them to exit on the ground level, where alternate transportation was available.
Ex-Terrier helps local team to softball title
The 34 miles of condensed traffic crammed onto I-93 Northbound and 495 South grew achingly familiar to Jamie Haas. Eventually, she’d pull into the lot at Lowell’s Barton softball field, and the familiarity would deteriorate. She’d pull on the uniform-the white, red and blue of the New England Riptide, of the National Pro Fastpitch league.
