Student-designed system eases hunt for parking
Finding a parking spot at Logan International Airport may get a lot easier, thanks to four Boston University College of Engineering graduates who developed a system to monitor open parking spots as part of a senior design project in 2005. The system, created by Michael Molé, Ido Hochman, Ken Lopez and Patrick Ward, works with monitors covering multiple parking spots in a parking lot or parking garage.
Study finds pre-gaming could lead to serious health effects
Pre-gaming has gone from collegiate lingo to a significant public health concern, as health officials and a Boston University professor look to examine the practice and shed light on the potential harm of bottoming-up before heading out. “I was shocked that there was no literature on this issue,” said study co-author Beth DeRicco, the associate director of the U.
For final talk, Wiesel addresses old gender story
Boston University humanities professor Elie Wiesel delivered the third and final installment of his annual lecture series last night, straying from contemporary issues and discussing storytelling, specifically the classical story of the maiden of Ludmir. The event, titled “A Woman in Hasidism: the Maiden of Ludmir,” was attended by more than 1,300 BU students, faculty and administrators in the George Sherman Union’s Metcalf Hall.
Union gives large RHAs additional reps.
The Boston University Student Union General Assembly passed one of three constitutional amendments last night, electing to add an additional GA representative for each of the three largest Residence Hall Associations. Amendments applying proportional representation to college governments and consortia did not receive the three-fourths vote necessary to pass.
Prediger among greats in history of BU goalkeepers
Goalkeeper may be the loneliest position in sports, but Erin Prediger has had a pretty good time as the Boston University field hockey team’s backstop over this past week. On Saturday, Prediger posted her sixth shutout of the season in BU’s 3-0 victory over the University of Maine.
