BU researchers counter studies on African orphans
Boston University researchers have found that orphans in Africa develop similarly to their peers, contradicting older reports that South African orphans perform worse in school and are more likely to engage in risky behavior. The finding comes from an ongoing study conducted by Amajuba Child Health and Well-being Research Project, a collaboration between the University of KwaZulu-Natal and BU’s Center of International Health and Development.
VP Shea to leave post in February
Anne Shea will step down Feb. 1 as Boston University’s enrollment and student affairs vice president after 11 years, though she will continue working in the Executive Vice President’s Office that has employed her for more than 30 years. Enrollment and Student Affairs Associate Vice President Laurie Pohl, whom Shea recruited three years ago, will assume her boss’s duties permanently in February and work to strengthen the office’s relationships with the university’s schools and colleges, Pohl said.

Tournament appearances just a start for F. hockey
The end is always the hardest part. Throughout the course of a season, it’s tough to tell when and how the final chapter of the story will be written. For the 2006 Boston University field hockey team, they seemed to be writing their own history furiously fast and then just like that, the book was closed and the season was over.
W. hockey to get real test this weekend
The beginning of the season was just a warm up compared to what the Boston University women’s ice hockey team will face this weekend. Heading into the weekend with a record of 3-3 in Hockey East and an exceptional 7-3 record overall, the Terriers take on two of their stiffest opponents in key league action.
