Final Week: A Semester at Boston University
CAS junior killed in bus accident in Peru College of Arts and Sciences junior Meghan Sennott was killed in a bus accident in the Peruvian Andes on May 14. Sennott, 20, had studied in Ecuador through Boston University’s abroad program that spring, and was traveling through Peru with her boyfriend, Richard Gebbie.
BU Discusses Possible Rape Crisis Partnership
Boston University officials say they are considering a partnership with the Family Justice Center that would make it easier for rape victims to seek confidential treatment, something student groups have long advocated for. BU does not have a dedicated women’s center or rape crisis center, though rape victims can seek help at Student Health Services, home to the Mental Health and Counseling Clinic.
Joseph Cialini, former Free Press editor, dies at 51
Joe Cialini, a South Jersey Courier-Post copy editor and former Daily Free Press editor, died Friday in Darby, Penn., after a brief battle with cancer. He was 51. Cialini is survived by his wife, Caroline Pollard, and his daughter Laura Cialini. A 1977 graduate of the School of Public Communication, now the College of Communication, Cialini was the Free Press’s top editor during the fall of 1976 who reported on growing student unrest during the 1970s.
A BU Student’s Business Makes a Lot of Talk Around the Water Cooler
AN IDEA Zises, a School of Hospitality Administration senior, said he started his company, Ben’sWater, in January 2006, with the goal of saving BU students the time usually needed to purchase water in stores like Campus Convenience and Shaw’s. Offering three and five gallon coolers to his customers online, Zises’s website states the Boston branch of the company delivers to eastern Massachusetts, Boston, Needham and Metrowest.
Memorial for 2006 grad filled with tears, prayers
Muffled sobs resounded off the walls of Marsh Chapel last night as Boston University students, alumni and faculty gathered to remember Marek Madej, a 2006 School of Management graduate, who was killed in a car accident in Warsaw, Poland on Nov. 10. He was 21.
