EDITORIAL: LaRouche goes to school

Gale-force winds. Mangled sidewalks. Abandoned construction equipment. Lawless bicyclists. Newspaper hawkers. Panhandlers. LaRouche supporters. There are many things that make Commonwealth Avenue sidewalks unpleasant, and Boston University students tolerate most of them with grace.

It’s Tuesday morning and 20 Boston University students are about to face a challenging in-class assignment: hollandaise, veloute and béchamel sauces. “It’s not about me going ‘oh, I can make this sauce and you can’t,’” veteran chef Kevin Crawley tells his students before they face-off against eight kitchen workstations stocked with pots, pans, whisks and wine.

Panel says history majors have future

A Boston College panel attempted to answer the age-old question last night of what exactly a person does with a bachelor’s degree in history, offering suggestions to students unsure of their futures. “A question I get from a lot of history students is, ‘Would anyone want to hire me?’” said Boston College Career Center Director Russell Ventura.

Well-known for his defense of high-profile, controversial clients, including the “Chicago Seven” and University of Massachusetts at Amherst student protester Abbie Hoffman, attorney Leonard Weinglass defended his decision to represent a Cuban man sentenced to life for espionage last night at Suffolk University Law School.

Local record shops adapt to survive

The recent local closings of Tower Records in Cambridge and Virgin Megastore on Newbury Street are added evidence that downloadable music on the Internet has spelled a death sentence for some pricey national chain record stores that cannot sell enough CDs and related technology to stay afloat.
