A view from the bleachers
No. 1 University of Vermont Players to watch: Sophomore guard Mike Trimboli is the floor general. He brings a strong outside shot and distributes the ball well. Senior Chris Holm looks like a cheerleader, but plays like a somewhat competent big man. Freshman wing Marquis Blakely is an incredibly athletic 6-foot-5, and although he’s not a go-to-guy right now, he may become one of the best players in the conference in the near future.
When efficiency matters most
The question has reigned supreme in sports for years — defense or offense? Is there any truth to the old adage that one sells tickets but the other wins championships? Are their superior ways to play or does it all boil down to execution? In baseball, some teams build around a high-octane lineup designed to outscore opponents, while others stock their pitching staffs and are content to manufacture individual runs.
BU’s best freshman class ready to play
To be honest, it’s probably the worst possible stat to have. Not because it’s mind-bogglingly awful or because it can be avoided, but because the memory of it lingers for an entire offseason. And with every offseason it lingers, it becomes more and more painful.
GAVRISH: CRASH-Bs are simply amazing
When I glanced up at the jumbotron during Friday’s hockey game against the University of Vermont, I was just hoping to find out The Wiggles were making a return trip to Agganis Arena. But instead, something very peculiar caught my eye. The screen read that Boston University was hosting the World Championships of Indoor Rowing on Sunday.
. . . and another begins
Posted on the bulletin board in Boston University softball coach Shawn Rychcik’s office is a red piece of paper that reads: 2006-2007 Goals. The paper stands out as a reminder of how high the bar has been set for this squad. Wining the America East tournament and making its first NCAA Tournament appearance in four years is listed as the team’s top goals.
