Men’s tennis improves to 5-3
The Boston University men’s tennis team welcomed Sacred Heart University to the Track and Tennis Center on Sunday, but it certainly wasn’t a warm welcome, as the Terriers dominated from start to finish, shutting out the Pioneers, 7-0. The Terriers’ second-straight shutout improved the team to 5-3 on the season and third-straight victory overall.
Track shows well at NE Champs
In a competition against 30 schools, the Boston University’s men’s and women’s track finished 16th and fifth, respectively, in the New England Championships at the BU Track and Tennis Center this weekend in a tuneup for the upcoming postseason. Both teams improved from last year’s performances, when the men finished 29th and the women finished seventh.
Gophers handle BU at home
Perhaps the upcoming two-week hiatus couldn’t have come at a better time. After starting off the season with five straight wins, the No. 61 Boston University women’s tennis team dropped its second consecutive match Sunday, this time against the University of Minnesota.
Softball finishes Central Florida Tournament 3-2
The Boston University women’s softball team’s season-opening trip to Florida began in memorable fashion, cruising to an 11-0 victory over George Mason University on the strength of Brittany Detwiler’s first-career no-hitter. Senior tri-captain Brittany Detwiler struck out four and walked only two in performance against George Mason en route to her first of three victories on the weekend in the Sunshine State.
LETTER: Powerhouse or not, BU football would bring a crowd
n In high school, football was my passion, so this letter will have a bias because of that (“The seats are there for you to fill, people,” Feb. 22, p. 16). Being from Connecticut, I was raised on college basketball because of the powerhouse men’s and women’s teams at the University of Connecticut.
