Colin Wilson is returning to the Boston University men’s hockey team for his sophomore season, multiple media outlets reported Monday.
The 18-year-old center, who was selected by the Nashville Predators with the seventh overall pick of last month’s National Hockey League Entry Draft, has opted for another year at the collegiate level instead of jumpstarting his professional career.
Nashville General Manager David Poile, who hinted at the possibility of Wilson’s return to the Terriers on draft day, endorsed the decision of the organization’s star-in-waiting.
‘I think the most important thing is that he made the decision,’ Poile told The Tennessean on Monday. ‘He decided where he’d be most comfortable, and we were totally on board for that.
‘We talked with him about the pros and cons [of turning pro] while he was here in conditioning camp [last month]. We didn’t really think there was a bad decision to be made. We think his development would be good whether it was as a pro or in college.’
The 2007-08 Hockey East and New England Rookie of the Year, whose rights will be retained by the Predators, is BU’s top returning scorer from last season. He racked up 35 points to help the Terriers earn the second-best regular season record in Hockey East.
