In the shadow of a campus landmark, an unused former Hillel awaits a suitor

Boston University purchased the property at 233 Bay State Road from BU’s Hillel House four years ago. The Hillel moved in 2005 to the $15 million Florence and Chafetz Hillel House less than a block away at 213 Bay State Road.

Perfect Tan, not-so-perfect crime

Police responded to a report of a disturbance at 12:42 a.m. Sept. 19. When officers arrived, a taxi driver said he had driven a passenger to his requested destination and, when he requested the fare, the passenger verbally assaulted him, punched him in the head and exited the cab.

Nicotine patches doled out

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health now offers free nicotine patches to smokers in the state who attend substance abuse programs. The initiative comes less than three months after lawmakers passed a $1 tax increase on packs of cigarettes.
