Zach Cohen signs with Avalanche

Zach Cohen, who just wrapped up his senior year with the Boston University men’s hockey team, has signed an entry-level contract with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, according to Colorado’s team website.

Cohen will report to the team’s AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, where he’ll be reunited with former BU associate head coach David Quinn.

Cohen led the Terriers this year with 15 goals, while also adding 10 assists for a total of 25 points. A year ago, Cohen broke out with 13 goals and five assists as BU skated to a national championship.

He is the second Terrier to sign with an NHL team this season, following teammate Nick Bonino, who signed with the Anaheim Ducks earlier this week. Bonino, a junior, will leave the Terriers a year early, while Cohen will graduate this year.

Cohen will join former teammate Brandon Yip in the Avalanche organization. Yip has scored 11 goals and registered seven assists with the NHL team this season.
