The Boston University lacrosse team earned its first win of the season in a 15-8 victory over Brown University on Tuesday. The Terriers dominated the first half, 10-3, and never looked back.

BU (1-1) shook off their season-opening loss to University of Massachusetts and came out with fire against the Bears (1-1), diminishing any chance of a second straight loss early in the season.

Brown looked to be even with the Terriers early, as the two teams traded goals twice in the first 9:05 of the game. However, BU took over after the first nine minutes and outscored the Bears 9-1 for the rest of the half.

The BU defense held Brown scoreless for 14 straight minutes in the first in between their second and third goals. The Bears were then held scoreless again for 19 minutes in between their third and fourth goals, a streak that extended until 19:27 in the second half.

One of the key parts of the Terriers’ first-half success was sophomore attack Danielle Etrasco. Etrasco scored five goals in the first half alone, including three from free position shots. By the end of the game, she had tallied a career-high seven goals and an assist.

Another big part of the BU offense on Tuesday was junior attack Catie Tilton, who scored a career-high four goals and an assist. Tilton scored her first four goals of the season in only four shots on the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kim Elsworth shook off the rust from her first collegiate start and performed well against Brown, making nine saves and only allowing four goals before being substituted with the game out of reach.

Freshman midfielder Sydney Godett scored her first two collegiate goals on her first two shots of the season, including one to tie the game after the Terriers had fallen behind early. The Boxford native is the first BU freshman to score a goal this season.

The Brown team totaled an outrageous 10 yellow cards in the game from 10 different players, including one from senior goalkeeper Maggie Suprey. The game was physical overall, as BU totaled 37 fouls and Brown committed 29.

Despite the win, Brown outshot the Terriers 35-21, with 11 free position shots. However, the Bears were a lowly 2-11 on those free position shots, and made 22 of their shots in the second half after the game was already out of reach.

Brown also won more draw controls than BU, controlling 14 out of 24 possible draws. Once again, most of these were in the second half, as the Bears controlled eight of 11 draws in period two.

BU, which has won the past six America East championships, is ready to get right back on the field on Saturday at College of William & Mary. BU won the matchup between these two squads last year in double overtime, 14-13.
