Weekly Roundup

The Boston University men’s and women’s track teams competed in the Battle of Beantown this past weekend with varying levels of success.

The women’s team finished in second at the meet with seven Terriers earning wins. Senior Shelby Walton won two events during the meet. Walton has won every race that she has competed in this season and has compiled a personal win streak of six.

Senior Katie Matthews, who broke the school record for the 5000-meter run at the Terrier Invitational last week, extended her own win streak by taking the mile run with a time of 4:46.95.

The men’s team did not fair as well as the Terriers finished fourth out of the four teams in the battle.

During the meet, the Terriers won two events with senior Joel Selnick winning the 400-meter dash, and junior Sam Wuest winning the high jump.

Swimming and Diving

The BU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each came away victorious this past weekend in their final meets of the regular season.

The men’s team (6-2-1, 3-0 America East) defeated Boston College 169-128 by taking 11 events.

Meanwhile, the women’s team (6-4, 4-0 America East) won 13 of 16 events during its 192-102 win over the Eagles.

Both teams will next compete at the America East Championships that will be held at BU’s Competition Pool Feb. 23-26.

Wrestling

After rallying to defeat Princeton University on Friday, the BU wrestling team (12-5) fell to Drexel University on Saturday 21-14.

In Friday’s match, the Terriers found themselves down 22-15 with two matches left in the meet. Senior John Hall and sophomore Kevin Innis earned eight points in these final two matches to give BU the come-from-behind win, 23-22.

On Saturday, BU was not as lucky after an early Terrier lead diminished. Drexel took its first lead, 18-14, after BU forfeited the 197-pound match.

The Terriers are entering the final three meets of the season and will compete against Brown University and Harvard University this weekend.
