Report: O’Brien to transfer from BU basketball

Another Boston University men’s basketball player bites the dust.

Following the departures of Mat Piotrowski and Mike Terry Jr. this past spring, tri-captain and senior forward Jake O’Brien is the latest player who will transfer from BU, Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com said.

In that same report, O’Brien told Goodman that he had no intention to leave until BU was declared ineligible for the America East Tournament. O’Brien fractured the navicular bone in his left foot in 2010, sidelining him for the rest of his junior year and the entire 2011-12 campaign after a second surgery.

On July 1, the conference ruled that it would ban the Terriers from competing in the postseason tournament after its highly publicized decision to move to the Patriot League after the 2012-13 season.

The former America East Rookie of the Year and Weymouth native will be eligible to play at any program as a graduate student because he finished his undergraduate degree. In three seasons suiting up for the Terriers, O’Brien averaged 12.9 points and 5.62 rebounds through 79 games.

  1. Hang in there Jake. If you stay, this year’s team will still make history despite being hosed out of the AE Playoffs. Irving, Watson, ND, Papale, Robinson, Thomas, Good team.
