Patriot League overview: Colgate University

Nickname: Raiders

Colors: Maroon and white

Located in Hamilton, New York, the Raiders currently have 25 NCAA Division I teams, including basketball, lacrosse, and soccer.

Next to their football team (nine NCAA appearances), the Raiders’ most successful programs over the years has been their indoor track and field team (six appearances), as well as both of their soccer teams, which have five NCAA tournament appearances apiece.

After making the NCAA tournament in 2011, the men’s soccer team has struggled over the last few seasons, as it posted a record of 5-8-6 in 2012 and are currently 0-2 this season. The same can’t be said for the women’s soccer team however, and while the Raiders have not made the NCAA tournament since 2009, they have stayed competitive with a 22-12-6 record over the last two seasons.

Led by senior Murphy Burnatowski, who finished third in the Patriot League in scoring last season (17.4 points per game), the Colgate men’s basketball team will look to turn around its program after a disappointing stretch, in which the Raiders have only mustered a 19-43 record over the last two years.

Out of any of the Raiders teams, it could be said that the men’s lacrosse team has been the most successful with two NCAA appearances over the last six years (2008, 2012). Led by junior Ryan Walsh, who finished last year with 37 goals in 15 games, the Raiders should be a formidable opponent this season. The same cannot be said for the women’s lacrosse team, who are 13-19 over the last two seasons, despite finishing second amongst Patriot League teams last season with 11.47 goals per game.
