BPD investigating suspicious package near Marathon finish line

Boston Police are investigating two unattended backpacks left at the Boston Marathon finish line Tuesday night.

A male suspect is in custody and is being questioned by police, according to a Boston Police Department spokesperson.

The bomb squad is on the scene with the police to investigate the objects, said a BPD spokesperson. The Boston Fire Department is also responding to the scene as “on stand-by” for the police, said Steve MacDonald, spokesman for BFD.

The area was closed at about 7:30 p.m. and all residents are asked to avoid the area, according to BPD.

Kelly Smith, spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, said the Copley T station is closed at street level and all trains are passing through the stop.
