Junior guard Eric Fanning has been indefinitely game-suspended from the Boston University men’s basketball team by head coach Joe Jones for a violation of team rules, BU Athletics confirmed Monday.
The 6-foot-5-inch guard will continue to practice with the team, but will not participate in game action for the time being. BU athletics said a timetable for his return is unclear.
Fanning was not present at Thursday’s Terrier Madness rally, which served as a kick-off to the school’s men’s and women’s basketball seasons.
After sitting out a season following his transfer from Wagner College, Fanning played a major role for the Terriers throughout the 2014-15 campaign as they attempted to fill the backcourt-void left by the departures of Maurice Watson, Jr., and D.J. Irving.
Fanning proved to be a dangerous offensive weapon for the Terriers, as he ended the season second on the team and 13th in the Patriot League in scoring with a 12.3 points per game average. He eclipsed double figures 18 times, highlighted by three consecutive 20-plus point performances at the United States Military Academy, at Lehigh University and at home against the United States Naval Academy.
