n After reading Andrew Steiner’s perspective (“My God, what in Lord’s name was I thinking?” Jan. 23, p. 7), I am surprised and upset. I am appalled not only at Steiner’s completely close-minded perspective, but particularly at his belligerent and careless tone.
I feel that it is bad enough to go on an angry rant against any religion without spending a lot of time thinking and studying that religion and on the content of one’s perspective on it, but to throw one’s thoughts together in a muck of simple-minded comments is both disrespectful and dangerous.
Although I am not Catholic, nor an expert on the Catholic religion, I am proud to be a Presbyterian Christian, one that spent years questioning and contemplating my religion before I truly committed to it.
While Steiner may have reason to feel the way he does about the Catholic Church, and may have a point in encouraging people to truly know what their religion stands for before associating with it, I feel that it was a mistake on his part to launch an attack that was worded so crudely and sarcastically, without context or tact.
I ask that Steiner give more thought to what he is writing about, how he is writing about it and if he truly knows what he is talking about in the future. Whether he is criticizing Catholicism or not, I think God might be quite pleased.
