n Kudos to Colin Minich for saying exactly what I have been thinking ever since the gay marriage issue became such a huge debate in the perspective “Sanctity of marriage lost on Americans” (pg. 6, Jan. 27). I’m also sorry that he had to experience the bitter divorce of his parents. I agree that the 50 percent divorce rate is a joke. It’s sad that any idiot with some cash on hand can haphazardly enter what is supposed to be a sacred institution, Britney Spears proves that.
And now Bush wants to “defend” the institution of marriage, but is there really anything left to defend?
I have no problem with people who think that homosexuality is wrong and that gay couples shouldn’t marry. What I do have a problem with is when people who feel this way try to make laws to go with their opinions or those who harass homosexuals because they disagree with how they live. Whether people think homosexuality is wrong or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that homosexuals are also citizens of this country. They pay taxes, hold down jobs and attend schools just like the rest of us. The gender of who they decide to marry shouldn’t be a factor in whether they can actually get married.
