Friday’s article about the semester T-pass program (“Students call for discount MBTA passes for January,” Jan. 27, p.3) focused on students who walk during January because they don’t have T-passes. That is not the only problem with the current situation.
Boston University runs what used to be a very effective shuttle service (the Boston University Shuttle, or BUS) between the Charles River and Medical Campuses. The BUS allows students living near either campus to take classes and conduct research at both sites. Ever since classes resumed on the Charles River Campus, the BUS has been consistently late and over-crowded during the morning commute. While this may have many causes, one undeniable one is students without T-passes getting on at the Student Village or other West Campus-area stops and riding down Commonwealth Avenue to morning classes. The BUS was never designed to be a Commonwealth Avenue shuttle and cannot get students to class on time if used in this manner.
