Bimal P. Chaudhari’s letter to the editor in the January 30 edition of the Free Press complains of ramped misuse of the BU shuttle by students who simply don’t have T passes. However, there are countless factors Mr. Chaudhari did not consider.
When I moved into the Student Village this semester, I thought about getting a T pass, but, on the first day of classes after I couldn’t get on the packed, one-car T I waited 15 minutes for, I knew that was not going to be an effective mode of transportation to the Kenmore Classroom Building each morning. Since then, I have been taking the Shuttle on many cold mornings and I have found it to be a much better alternative to the T. Despite Chaudhari’s claims, I find it is much more reliable than the T and always comes on time. While it is sometimes crowded, I’ve never seen the driver turn people away, which is more than I can say for the T. Plus, the shuttle clean, convenient and free, so I don’t see any reason for any BU student not to use it, medical or otherwise. The shuttle was designed to help students reach the Medical campus, as Chaudhari says, but the route was obviously created with Charles River Campus students in mind as well. There are four different stops along Comm. Ave. in each direction to help students move quickly and easily around our campus. Both BU campuses are made of very diverse groups of people, with very diverse needs. We should be applauding BU its effort to meet as many of these needs as possible
