I am writing in response to last week’s article concerning John Marker’s Student Union secretarial nominee, Megan Castellano. I was upset to see people quoted in the article question her motive for running for the Union.
As Megan’s Mock Trial captain, I know that anyone who would dare question Megan’s intentions for running for the Union has never had a conversation with her. I spend over ten hours a week with Megan at Mock Trial meetings, and she is a truly caring, hardworking and dedicated individual. Mock Trial demands that you learn the federal rules of evidence, learn how to draft direct and cross-examinations and be ready for objection fights. Megan works diligently at these tasks in addition to having an opening statement as a freshman. She is articulate, poised and above all, gracious. She has never given anything less than her best effort, and she devotes herself to our organization. Our team loves her, and I am lucky enough to call myself her captain. There is no doubt in my mind that she would never join an organization for the wrong reasons, and anyone who thinks so should learn not to judge a person before they get to know him or her.
Megan’s “resume” doesn’t need any additions. In addition to her work experience at a law firm, she is a member of Mock Trial and ultimate frisbee and is active with Marsh Chapel. She would have made an amazing secretary due to her loyalty, compassion, dedication and integrity. I didn’t even find out about last week’s article from her — a mutual friend asked me if I had seen it. Megan isn’t the type of person who complains about setbacks. She looks for the good in people and the good in situations. Perhaps the reason I’m writing this letter is because Megan is exactly the type of person the Student Union needs, but the fact that some members would question her character shows that they don’t deserve her.
