Saliva has always been a rough-and- tough sounding alternative metal band, but the group’s fifth release, Blood Stained Love Story, will baffle any remaining fans. The seventh track, “Twister,” attempts to sound like current chart toppers The All-American Rejects, but the song is so corny that even radio DJs will reject this track. “Here With You” is not quite as poppy, but will likely be added to country radio playlists. There are, however, three or four attempts at hard rock tracks on the album. The inexplicably popular album opener “Ladies and Gentleman” sounds more like a parody of the alternative genre than an honest attempt to rock. Similarly, “King of the Stereo” needs only its title to leave listeners laughing. These guys need to stop trying so hard. Grade: C
