The Boston University men’s and women’s indoor track teams may not have cleaned up at the BU Invitational and Terrier Classic this past weekend at the Track and Tennis Center, but with more than 20 participants competing in almost every event, each squad proved it could hold its own against some of the best from the area.
The men’s team, which hosted the BU Invitational on Saturday, boasted a number of top finishers throughout the day, with junior Andre Nacaxe providing the best showing with a second-place finish in the 500-meter run (1:04:00). Sophomore Lucjan Zaborowski and senior Matt Adler also bolstered the Terrier middle-distance attack, as each crossed the line at 48.80 for 15th place in the 400-meter dash.
Senior Jochen Dieckfoss, the four-time America East cross country champion, placed ninth in the mile with a time of 4:10:60 while the 4×400-meter relay team of Nacaxe, Zaborowski, Barry Graham and Matt Howard finished third in its event.
Junior Jeff McAulay led the way in the field events for BU, placing ninth among 20 finishers in the long jump with a distance of 6.46 meters.
On the women’s side, six different Terriers recorded personal bests in the Terrier Classic, with sophomore Alaina Ramsey chalking up her two best throws in the shot put (43-01.5 feet) and the weight throw (34-1.5). Erin Cadden posted the highest finish during the two-day event for BU after the sophomore finished fifth among 30 others in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.45 seconds.
Freshman Marissa Ryan placed 10th in the mile run with a time of 5:00.36, shaving just under a second off her previous personal best while senior Lauren Rodwell posted a strong showing in the 200-meter dash, placing 39th out of 70 other runners with a time of 26.7 seconds. Versatile sophomore Jessica Iannacci ran a 9:48.82 in the 3,000-meter run, topping her previous best by over 14 seconds.
The men’s team returns to the track on Feb. 7 to host Providence College, Boston College, the University at Albany and Northeastern University in a five-way invitational while the women prepare for a Feb. 10 tri-meet against BC and Providence.
