Boston University Police Department detectives are investigating an incident in West Campus, after an unknown male entered the room of two girls and ‘masturbated in their presence before fleeing,’ according to BUPD crime logs.
The crime occurred at Sleeper Hall, 275 Babcock St., at 6:22 a.m. Sunday. BUPD Sgt. Jack St. Hilaire had no comment on the matter, except to say that the crime is being ‘heavily investigated.’
Word of the incident spread quickly through Sleeper Hall and the rest of West Campus.
College of General Studies freshman Brianne Gillespie, who lives on the second floor of Sleeper where the crime took place, said the crime was disturbing.
‘It most likely is someone in the building because of the security, and it could have been anyone,’ Gillespie said. ‘It’s really scary; no one has any idea who it could be.’
Gillespie said she and her roommate began to lock their room door at night more frequently after hearing of the crime. She said they got a note on their door from the floor’s Resident Assistant telling them to lock their doors and think about security concerns.
She said she is not scared the crime will be repeated, but others on the floor are.
Sleeper Hall resident and College of Communication freshman Alex Sklansky said she thought the crime was repulsive.
‘It’s really disgusting,’ she said. ‘All I can say is, I’m locking my door from now on.’
