Boston University chancellor John Silber will speak to the student body for the second time this year sometime in March, Union Senate chairman Joel Fajardo said during the body’s weekly meeting last night.
Fajardo gave no other details about the event, but said specifics will be announced within the next several weeks.
The Senate approved $1,012 to the Public Relations committee for the event, a portion of which will be used for tables and a podium, which are items the venue Silber will be speaking at does not already have, Fajardo said.
Last semester’s forum with Silber was cut short, leaving many students disappointed and angry about the ‘tame’ nature of questions asked.
Student Union Election Commission officials also announced that preparations for spring elections will start tomorrow.
Wednesday, Mar. 5 is the deadline for slates to declare their candidacies, SUEC officials said. SUEC officials said there will be three different campaigning sessions at the different residence dining halls Warren Towers, Myles Standish dining hall and the West Campus dining hall at the end of March.
There will also be a debate in the Tsai Center on Mar. 31. SUEC officials said Bob Zelnick, the head of BU’s Journalism Department, will moderate the event, which will include City Councilor Mike Ross as a panelist.
Elections themselves will run from Tuesday, April 1 until Thursday, April 3.
Students who wish to form slates and run for the Student Union e-board or their respective student governments can attend an informational meeting tomorrow night in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Last night’s meeting was shortened because several senators were not in attendance and because the meeting was rescheduled with little notice because of Monday’s snowstorm.
