Dear Editor,
One only has to read the front page of the newspaper or turn on the local news to recognize the reoccuring theme of violence as a form of conflict resolution.
We at Speak Easy–BU’s student run hotline–believe in the power of listening. That is to say: you talk, we listen. That’s right, verbal communication has a way of alleviating stress and anxiety while introducing options that might otherwise be overlooked in the aftermath of a fight, the distortion of a body image, the hopelessness of a lonely individual.
Worried about how a roommate or friend will react to a certain situation? Call us! We are anonymous and confidential which means you don’t know us, we don’t know you and you can have an entire conversation devoid of judgement and personal bias. Doesn’t that make you feel more relaxed already?
Everybody has problems and everyone deserves to be heard. Likewise, every conflict deserves to be explored verbally, rather than chased after with a pair of scissors* (*Speak Easy empathizes with those students who have lost money to scams and encourages them to employ our services).
Are we just a bunch of pacifists trying to preach world peace? Not necessarily. But we do like to think of ourselves as advocators of the slogan “Think Globally, Act Locally” because we do stand for the peace of mind of the student body.
So, if Valentine’s Day got you down, or your awful roommate, or just the cold weather, you can be guarenteed there will be somebody from Monday ’til Thursday, 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. who will let you vent, cry or hurl insults–for free! So tear this page out (recycle the rest of the paper) and call us already! 353-3528.
The Speak Easy Listeners 353-3528
