Yesterday’s “Grey Matter” cartoon was the latest sign of the disturbing decline of sensible editing practices your newspaper has employed this semester. Satirists should either make unique commentary or inform the students of Boston University — Rume Kragha did neither. It is the responsibility of the editors to reject such pointless and offensive social criticism.
While the vocabulary was not the most deplorable use of race stigma, our campus newspaper is certainly not the place to perpetuate ill humor. I urge the editors to think deeply about the decision to publish such vacuous pieces, particularly while carrying the name Boston University on the front page.
Whether it is the mission of the company or not, The Daily Free Press plays a significant role in portraying the campus community; this publication is a reflection of our collective ideas and interests.
Taking into account the recent calls for apologies to the readership, the editors should reallocate these pages to the truly noteworthy ideas our community has to offer.
