A 33-year-old South Boston male was stabbed yesterday at approximately 2:40 p.m. on a Green Line B-train inbound as it pulled into the St. Paul Street stop, according to MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo.
A verbal scuffle in the rear trolley escalated into punches leading to the victim’s stabbing by a group of high-school-aged students. The victim was stabbed in the abdomen and was taken to Beth Israel for treatment, Pesaturo said.
“The injuries are not life-threatening,” Pesaturo said.
No other passengers were injured in the incident and no arrests had been made immediately following the train’s evacuation. MBTA police officials said they are still investigating the cause of the fight and developing a list of possible suspects.
While Boston University police assisted at the scene, a BUPD spokesperson said the investigation remained an MBTA matter because it occurred on a “T” train.
Despite the fact the stabbing occurred just days after a pregnant woman was shot on the Orange Line and another woman stabbed while waiting at the Longwood “T” stop, Pesaturo said the incident is not connected with any other assaults.
“It appears to be an isolated incident,” he said.
An assistant manager at the CVS on 900 Commonwealth Ave., located directly across the street from the St. Paul Street “T” stop, said he was attempting to stop a shoplifter running from the store during the first moments of the stabbing and did not witness any initial details of the crime.
“I looked out the window and saw the cops evacuating the ‘T,'” he said. “But I couldn’t get a good look at the victim because his face was covered and he was bleeding all over the place.”
