The Daily Free Press dropped the ball on Sufia Khalid’s article (Tuesday Feb. 28, 2006 Saudi Arabia: A world Away-but not that far). Many of her claims are just outright false. The Saudi monarchy is a totalitarian regime that regularly uses the most brutal forms of torture in its “criminal justice” system. “Due process” means a beheading after a circus trial. Political dissent is quelled by any means necessary, as is access to information. Women are treated as property. Jews are prohibited from step foot in the country and human rights are a joke. Wahhabism, the radical form of Islam, is the dominant form practiced and it is apparent from the literature spewed forth from the Gulf.
