The March 3, 2006, edition of the Freep contained an article entitled, “Family Center will offer assistance to BU, general community” by Christina Crapanzo. I want to make it clear to the Boston University community that the new Family Justice Center on Comm. Ave is not currently a rape crisis center. Like Christina Crapanzo, I too met with Dee Kennedy and toured the facilities. The center has pediatric rape kit services, Dress for Success, and a Child Advocacy program. This is a wonderful resource and an excellent place to volunteer, however it does not offer adult sexual assault crisis services at this time, and therefore, does not meet the needs of BU Students. I hope that the BU community recognizes that there is still an urgent need for rape and sexual assault survivor services and that, as a community, we can work to bring these services to Boston University.
