Yesterday, students received a letter from the comptroller informing them of the implementation of ResNet fees. I am extremely disappointed in Boston University not only for this unnecessary fee change but also for a countless number of exorbitant fees that the university charges. Considering the fact that Boston University’s tuition is the among the highest tuitions in the country, this additional ResNet fee is unnecessary when one accounts for other, less-expensive universities that do not charge their students for high-speed internet access.
This additional fee, along with the exorbitant copying and microfilm printing fees in the library, the inflated prices at Campus Convenience, the need to pay for a university-only calling plan, the over-priced textbooks and clothing at Barnes ‘ Nobles (not to mention the difficulty with obtaining a list a needed textbooks outside of Barnes ‘ Noble so that students can purchase cheaper textbooks and have them in time for classes), the unusually high rental rates for the university-sanctioned micro-fridges and rack-raisers, the excessive laundry machine prices, the need to pay for the game room at the GSU, the unnecessary housing violation fees, and the need for student run, university-approved, organizations to rent out parts of BU for functions among other fees, makes me feel undervalued as a student at BU. I feel as if BU is trying to wring all the money they can out of me before I graduate and because of this, if I carry through with my four years at BU, I will not be giving any donations to the school.
Graduating student, please keep the ludicrous fees that your alma matter, your nurturing mother, has charged you and continues to charge students before you make any donations.
