In a news story March 22 (“40 years after BU, Baird still active,” page 1), several inaccuracies were stated due to reporting errors. It was stated that the Roe v. Wade decision was made in 1972. The decision was made in 1973. It was also stated that Bill Baird helped perform abortions at the clinic he founded in Hempstead, N.Y. Baird actually worked with licensed physicians who performed abortions. It was also stated that the Griswold v. Connecticut decision was passed in 1962. It was passed in 1965. It was also stated that Baird spoke to a BU audience in 1979. Baird spoke April 6, 1967. It was also stated that about 680 students protested his appearance, though the group had actually invited him to the campus. It was also stated that Massachusetts revised its abortion statute in 1966. However, abortions were still illegal then.
In a news story March 30 (“RIAA targets 46 students at BU for illegal filesharing,” page 1), several inaccuracies were stated due to editing errors. It was incorrectly stated that BU forwarded emails from the RIAA to 46 students. BU had previously sent warning emails to students not contacted by the RIAA and asked them to delete illegally downloaded files. BU forwarded letters, not emails, from the RIAA to the 46 students, in which the RIAA asked students to keep the files for court. It was also stated that COM student Nora Crotty is a junior. Crotty is a sophomore.
