The Boston University women’s lacrosse team will look to extend its winning streak to five this weekend when it takes on the University at Albany and Brown University.
The women take on the Albany in a conference game tomorrow at Nickerson Field and then travel to Providence for a matchup with Brown on Sunday.
BU (5-4, 1-0 in America East) has been playing very well as of late. The Terriers are looking to notch their fourth straight win and add to their conference total against an Albany team that has struggled so far this season going 2-8 and 1-1 in the America East. Brown could prove to be a tough game for BU, but the way they have been playing lately, it seems like the Terriers could take on any team.
Much of the Terriers’ recent success can be attributed to their dominating play. They have controlled the possession in their last two games and held their opponents to minimal scoring chances. They have also been among the best teams in the nation on the draws. They rank second in the nation in draw controls averaging 14.11 controls per game.
BU has also been helped by a number of new faces contributing to the offensive attack.
Sophomore midfielder Alyssa Trudel has been dominant the entire season. She leads the America East in scoring and is among the top 20 in the nation in both goals and assists.
She was also named America East player of the week after scoring nine points in two games last week. She leads BU in draw controls, ground balls and caused turnovers.
Trudel wasn’t the only Terrier to be honored this week. Junior Sasha Lang was named America East defender of the week; her first weekly honor. Lang was key in the BU victory against Binghamton with three goals and solid defense. Lang is second on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers, and is the leader on a defense that has allowed a league-low 7.67 goals a game.
In addition to the stellar play of Lang and Trudel, BU has been getting production from other sources. A youth movement has really bolstered the offense. Junior defender Kylie Wagenet has been a standout with eight goals in the last two games. Freshmen midfielders Keely Anderson, Mary Beth Miller and Lindsay Lewis, and freshman attacker Danica Strutt have been key in the recent push.
This weekend BU will look to build on a completely dominating performance in their last game out against Binghamton. Once they jumped out to a commanding early lead, BU had the chance to work on their passing and cuts. They hope they can take that diversified offense into the games against Albany and Brown. The three-game winning streak is the longest for the Terriers since 2001, and they would no doubt love to keep the streak alive this weekend.
