After a Wheelock College student allegedly received threatening online messages from part-time Boston University student Andrew Rosenblum stating he would kill her, her friend and others at the college, Wheelock officials coordinated efforts with the Boston Police Department to maintain safety on campus.
“The safety of our entire student body, not just those threatened, is the main priority of our college’s administration,” said Wheelock Public Relations Director Rochelle Rosen.
A Wheelock press release informed the campus community of the situation, assuring that Rosenblum had been ordered by police to stay away from the campus and the Wheelock students allegedly threatened.
Rosenblum, who pleaded not guilty to three charges of threatening to commit a crime yesterday, was held on a $50,000 cash bail and ordered under house arrest if released.
Although no Wheelock community members were placed in immediate danger by the threats, Wheelock representatives are taking the incident seriously and will continue to enhance campus safety and security procedures, according to the press release.
Wheelock officials attended a citywide discussion with other universities and law enforcement agencies Tuesday, where state and local police detailed campus security measures for Boston-area schools, according to a previous statement released by Wheelock officials Wednesday.
“In response to not only this incident, but increasing security problems across the country, we will be implementing the guidelines set forth at the citywide meeting Tuesday,” Rosen said.
