I would like to respond to Erin Mich’s letter to the editor which ran on Thursday in The Daily Free Press (“Photo of Daverio distasteful,” April 17, pg. 11). I must say I completely disagree with the stance Mich has taken and find it hypocritical for her to slam the paper for not knowing what a “musicologist” is when she clearly has no knowledge of journalistic standards or how a paper is run.
It is the job of photographs to visually compliment the text of the story, and I feel that photo did exactly that – it showed the immediacy and tragic nature of the situation. I applaud The Daily Free Press for making such a bold and responsible decision to show it in print.
Ms. Mich’s anger and sense of loss is understandable, but directing her feelings at The Daily Free Press is not.
