OOPS … I DID IT AGAIN
A New York resident was arrested twice early Saturday morning after assaulting a police officer following a disturbance outside an Allston bar.
Officer Todd Nolan was working a paid detail at the Kells on Brighton Avenue when an employee allegedly asked the officer to go outside the bar where a group of men reportedly had assaulted the employee and were trying to start a fight with him.
According to the report, Nolan approached the group and asked them to leave the area. The men refused and allegedly began taunting the officer. The officer again asked the men to leave the bar and attempted to escort them away from the Kells’ entrance.
The group again allegedly refused to vacate the area, continued to yell at the officer and began to charge him. Nolan then reportedly drew his nightstick and ordered the men to disperse. Several members of the group allegedly began to approach Nolan with raised fists and Nolan called for assistance. Sgt. Ralph Caulfield was the first officer to respond.
Nolan and Caulfield reportedly attempted to physically disperse the group, but were met with physical resistance by one of the men. The officers tried to arrest Ryan Smith, 21, of Brighton, and take him into custody, but he again allegedly resisted. Nolan subdued the suspect by striking him on the thigh with his nightstick, according to the report.
Two other suspects attempted to intervene with Smith’s arrest. Nolan allegedly swung his baton several times to keep them back, striking one in the leg.
According to the report, several more commands by police to clear the area were ignored. The two allegedly became aggressive when police placed Smith into the police transport van. Both Brian Lobue, 21, of Brighton, and Alfred Magid, 22, of Searingtown, N.Y., were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Smith was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Several hours later, Magid allegedly became loud and unruly as he was being bailed out of jail. Magid allegedly threatened the officers present, including Caulfield.
Magid was reportedly ordered to leave the building and not return. Magid left but allegedly returned to the police station four more times and threatened to kill the officers.
Caulfield finally approached Magid at the front door of the building, where Magid allegedly shoved the officer. A struggle ensued, and Magid was again taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. Magid was reportedly drunk at the time.
I SWEAR IT WASN’T ME
Two men were arrested Friday morning following a brawl on Brighton Avenue in Allston, during which a police officer was allegedly assaulted.
Two officers reportedly witnessed an unknown male kick the side of a passing car at the corner of Brighton and Harvard avenues. According to reports, the car stopped and three men exited the vehicle and allegedly attacked another pedestrian, mistakenly thinking he was the one who had kicked the car.
As officers approached the fight, they allegedly observed a man cross Brighton Avenue and punch one of the men from the vehicle in the back of his head.
As one officer attempted to arrest the man, another man allegedly attacked the officer from behind. A second officer tried to arrest the suspect, but he managed to elude capture. The officer pursued him and wrestled him to the ground. Both men were arrested.
