College of Engineering Dean David Campbell was named provost ad interim Tuesday, filling the position vacated by former provost Dennis Berkey on April 29.
Campbell has been dean of ENG for four years and will continue to fulfill those duties until a new dean is named, President ad interim Aram Chobanian said in an announcement posted on the university website.
“The members of the search committee and I were very impressed with David’s distinguished leadership at ENG, and we are confident that he will excel in his new role as provost,” Chobanian said.
Campbell received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and physics from Harvard in 1966. He received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics and applied mathematics from Cambridge University in 1970. He was chairman of the physics department at the University of Illinois before coming to BU.
Berkey left BU after 30 years to become president of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He began his new role on July 1.
