n The Daily Free Press’s Timothy Malcolm may be having problems with his long-term memory. In Thursday’s article about Sen. John Kerry (‘Kerry draws 5,000,’ Sept. 4, pg. 1), Malcolm describes the Senator as an ‘outspoken opponent of the war in Iraq.’ In fact, Kerry was ambivalent at best regarding the war. He voted in favor of the resolution that originally granted President Bush the authority to use military force in Iraq, but then later flipped positions, citing a lack of evidence and international support.
In reality, Gov. Howard Dean is the only realistic candidate who has been consistently against the war. Now what was once a shimmering victory has become an embarrassing and hopeless situation, and Dean’s voice of outrage has been joined by other Democrats who have seen that it’s safe to jump on the band wagon originally reserved for ‘radical liberals.’ These candidates are counting on the short memory of the American people, and, of course, the press.
