The following reports are taken from the logs of the Boston Police Department’s District 14 for the week of August 31, 2003
Police officers responded to a call alleging assault and battery with a deadly weapon at the Wonder Bar on 186 Harvard Ave. in Allston, at 1:40 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5.
When officers arrived at the scene, the victim was reportedly standing on the sidewalk bleeding from a cut on his left forearm, which he told police he suffered when an unknown person within a crowd of arguing people cut him while he was leaving the bar.
Two witnesses, Neill Carey and Matt Foley, both employees of the Wonder Bar, said they observed the unknown suspect break a bottle, slash the victim on the arm and flee the building.
The victim was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for treatment.
The only arrest was of 24-year-old Andrew Cabral of Brookline, who was charged with disorderly conduct after he refused to cooperate with police and leave the scene.
DISTURBING THE PEACE
Police responded to a report of a loud party at 17 Highgate St. in Allston at 2:39 a.m. on Sept. 3rd.
Loud music and yelling were audible from outside the house, according to police reports. The responding officers knocked on the door of apartment 6 and Michael James Balger, 21, of Jamaica Plain, answered the door and said he was not a resident of the apartment.
According to police, he then proceeded to put his left hand on Officer J. Harrigan’s chest and began to push him out of the doorway of the apartment. Police said Balger resisted Harrigan’s attempt to arrest and handcuff him by pulling away from the officer. After police issued verbal commands and following a brief struggle, Balger was handcuffed and arrested for assault and battery of a police officer.
According to reports, 20-year-old Ryan Shibley, a resident of the building, was reportedly providing beer to the occupants of the apartment. The alcohol was seized and Shibley was arrested on charges of keeping a disorderly house, disturbing the peace and underage possession of alcoholic beverages.
WARRANT ARRESTS
Two Lexington residents, 49-year-old Carol J. Monahan and 36-year-old Lisa M. Demeo, were arrested in Allston on outstanding warrants after police observed what they believed was a drug deal at 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 3.
Officers observed Demeo and a white male enter Monahan’s vehicle after she parked in a Brooks Pharmacy lot. According to reports, officers suspected there were drugs in the vehicle and followed it as it exited the parking lot. The police officers approached the vehicle as it was stopped at a red light and found that Monahan’s license had expired.
Officers recovered five Clonazepan pills from Demeo’s purse, and three Promethazine pills from Monahan as she reportedly attempted to put them in her mouth.
Demeo was placed under arrest on a warrant for larceny, issued on Sept. 9, 1993, out of Quincy District Court. Monahan’s license was suspended and she was arrested on two warrants for larceny out of Gloucester District Court, issued on June 30, 1988, and Sept. 26, 1988.
