They may have great video potential–five scantily clad bombshells singing R’B ballads dripping with sexual innuendo always does–but at first listen, Danity Kane’s debut could be nothing more than a Pussycat Doll follow-up. Despite help from celebrity songwriters/producers Timbaland and Scott Storch, Danity Kane’s self-titled debut album lacks any guilty pleasure appeal. The rhythms and harmonies on nearly all tracks are elementary and the vocals–particularly on “Sleep on It” –are so under-produced they sound like products of a late night karaoke session. Danity Kane is destined for the same fate as all other groups assembled on MTV’s “Making the Band” — the clearance bin. Sorry Diddy, maybe next time. Grade: D — Theresa Kelliher, Muse Staff
