As students switch gears from their carefree summer days to the bustle of classes and studying, fashion also takes a turn from fun and flirty to classic and clean.
Campus classrooms will be transformed into catwalks featuring menswear-inspired outfits for women that are adorned with a bit of feminine flair. Tweed, herringbone, hound’s-tooth and pinstripe suits will be accessorized with jeweled brooches, crocodile clutch bags and other sexy, lady-like details. Prints such as argyle, paisley and leopard are minor details that have major impact when paired with suit pants or tailored skirts.
Pink packs a punch this fall, showing up in unexpected places including Mary Jane heels, ankle boots and round toe pumps. This classically feminine color is playing a new role with men as well, especially with neat button-down shirts and fitted sweaters.
Jackets seem to be the staple piece of the fall wardrobe this year: long trench coats, fitted blazers and cutaway jackets have filled the pages of recent issues of Vogue and In Style magazines.
While females pair fitted blazers with cuffed suit pants, the men are sure to be making the blazer more casual by pairing it with jeans. And because you can never get too much of a good thing, the poncho survived the summer and is still a popular cover-up for the cool fall temperatures.
This season is also a blast from the past, with ’80s inspiration rocking the fashion world. Fitted t-shirts paired with bleached and ripped denim will provide comfort and versatility without sacrificing style.
