Boston University women’s soccer forward Farrell McClernon has become the first freshman to win America East Player of the Week accolades in 2006 and she is certainly making her presence felt.
It’s the second time this year McClernon has been awarded by the conference for her efforts. The West Chester, Penn., native received Rookie of the Week honors Sept. 5, after scoring the game-winning goal in the 94th minute against rival Boston College.
Once again, McClernon was awarded in large part because of her ability to deal the deciding blow. She did so twice in the past week for the No. 10 Terriers. The first of her game-winners came against Yale University Sept. 25-giving BU the 2-1 overtime win. Three days later, McClernon scored the only goal of a 1-0 victory over previously undefeated No. 22 Maine. The goal was McClernon’s fifth of the season and helped extend the Terriers’ winning streak to four games.
