Three seems to do it for the Boston University women’s basketball team. Having grown under the services of three captains last season, the women’s squad announced last night that seniors Cheri Raffo and Casey Devine and junior Christine Kinneary would shake hands with opposing captains on behalf of the Terriers before every tip-off.
Raffo, who also served as a captain last season along with graduated seniors Katie Meinhardt and Erica Kovach, averaged 9.3 points per game in 29.5 minutes, and has not missed a start in her three years at BU.
The 6-foot-3 Devine played in 23 games in 2005-06 after missing the early part of the season with an injury. She averaged 4.2 points and 3.0 rebounds while finishing third on the team in blocked shots with 15.
Kinneary, a 13-game starter who appeared in each of the 2005-06 season’s contests, contributed 4.1 points and 2.1 rebounds and was second on the team with 31 steals behind Meinhardt’s 35.
The Terriers finished 15-15 last season, losing in the first round of the America East Tournament to Binghamton University, 63-58. Their season kicks off on Nov. 10 at Siena University.
